Princes Road

Alterations and extension to a fine semi-detached red brick house originally built in 1876.

Brief:

  • Remove non-original rear and side extensions and conservatory

  • Provide new spaces for kitchen/ dining/ family and utility

  • Maximise interaction with, and views of garden

  • Be simple, affordable and comfortable.

Proposals:

  • Sensitive planning discussions as conservation area, although removal of non-original features helped

  • New single storey structure located entirely behind existing original house

  • Clerestory windows pushed up above kitchen for optimum daylight

  • Construction is  lightweight timber frame with handmade brick cladding and woodfibre insulation

  • Windows, external doors and rooflight are aluminium clad timber framed with triple glazing

  • All junctions taped internally for best possible air-tightness.

Construction:

  • Work started on site in October and completed in March 2019.

Happy client:

"...the project has surpassed all our expectations and we couldn't be happier with the end result".

Windows going in, with the big slider looking pensive.
